Temple — ideally situated along the Central Texas technology corridor with San Antonio and Austin to the south and Dallas and Fort Worth to the north — offers an exceptional quality of life to nearly 85,000 residents. The Parks and Recreation Department provides and maintains quality parks, facilities, green spaces, recreational activities, and special events for the community. The City is currently experiencing population growth, it was recently listed as one of the 20 fastest-growing cities in Texas. Sixty-five parks and open spaces, which span approximately 1,500 acres along a network of 22 trails that extend for 29 miles, are situated throughout the City. In addition to the many parks, trails, and open spaces that contribute to a better quality of life for the community, the City has a golf course, two recreation centers, two community centers, one cemetery, three outdoor pools, an indoor pool, an outdoor water park, and various rental facilities. Year-round activities bring the community together for unforgettable experiences and celebrations.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, the Parks Planning and Development Manager is responsible for the overall development and redevelopment of parks, open spaces, and special-use areas within the City of Temple. This position oversees all phases of park development projects — from conceptualization and design to construction and implementation. This will require working with contractors, consultants, and internal departments to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.

The City of Temple seeks a passionate and experienced leader, who is committed to creating vibrant and accessible outdoor spaces for Temple's growing community, to serve as its next Parks Planning and Development Manager. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in all aspects of park planning and development, including park design and project management. A good understanding of construction documents, contracts for community development projects, and local development codes, particularly those pertaining to parks, trails, and residential development, is important for this position. The City of Temple seeks a candidate with a bachelor's degree in planning, landscape architecture, or a related field, coupled with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in park planning. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and/or other planning-related software is essential. The applicant must be a current member of The American Society of Landscape Architecture or must be able to obtain membership within six months of hire.
