SRPEDD's Transportation Department is seeking a self-starting team player who enjoys collaborating as well as working on their own and is independent enough to take initiative on projects. Under the supervision of the Transportation Planning Manager the Transportation Planner performs a wide variety of transportation/transit data collection tasks.

The Transportation Planner primarily supports data collection and analysis and public engagement efforts for various studies for the Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization (SMMPO). Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Traffic Counting Program – accountable for traffic count data collection efforts:

  • Deploy and retrieve Automatic Traffic Recorders on roadways within the SRPEDD region and all required duties associated with this effort
  • Input and analyze traffic count data into a database, spreadsheet, and other analytical software programs
  • Maintain the traffic counting equipment and vehicle
  • Conduct turning movement counts
  • Conduct Park and Ride lot counts

Safety Management - assist with safety program efforts:

  • Compile and assemble crash data to assist in identifying high crash intersections and corridors for specific safety studies
  • Develop and present reports and graphics on analysis results
  • Participate in road safety audits of corridors and intersections

Regional Transit Authorities (RTA) – assist with efforts to support technical planning with GATRA and SRTA including:

  • Various data collection efforts including but not limited to passenger ride counts, passenger surveys, on and off passenger counts, etc.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • The ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with peers and managers, both orally and in writing; this includes the ability to compose relevant and concise documentation regarding data collection efforts.
  • Ability to understand and consistently follow safety guidelines and policies.
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • A valid driver's license, personal transportation, and a clean driving record required, with an agency vehicle available for field work.
  • Bachelor's degree in transportation, urban or regional planning, engineering, geography, or a related field.

Preferred

  • Experience with field work and data collection.
  • Knowledge of the SRPEDD region and its transportation system.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or other visualization software as well as an eye for graphic design.
  • Currently residing in or strongly familiar with the SRPEDD region.

Salary and Benefits

$50,000 Yearly
