- Planning, directing, coordinating and facilitating development activities in the Development Services Department including planning, codes, municipal development regulations and guidelines, commercial development and program management and community development project management.
- Manages contracts for community development planning projects for the city.
- Leads, coordinates and evaluates regulations and processes in the Development Services Department.
- Supervises employees in the Development Services Department as assigned.
- Promotes Maryville to the development community locally, regionally and nationally.
- Participates in building relationships with local business owners and community leaders. Engages with committees or groups that involve businesses and supports initiatives that promote a healthy business climate.
- Develops and maintains an inventory of available properties suitable for industrial and community development.
- Represents the Public Services Director as a liaison to the Industrial Development Board and Chamber of Commerce as appropriate.

- Works to understand local, state, and national legislative issues as they relate to all aspects of development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern principles and practices of economic and community development, City operations and public administration.
- General knowledge of planning, economics, municipal finance, public administration and project management as they apply to city development.
- Ability to attract industry and business for the City.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive administrative and economic reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state and local officials, associates and the general public.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in business administration, economics, engineering, planning, public administration, or related field.
- Extensive experience in planning, community relations and/or economic development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
Valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
