James City County is in search of two staff members who are self-motivated, collaborative and experienced Planners to step into the role of Senior Planner or Planner II (depending upon the individuals selected). Planners in this category work collaboratively with other planning professionals, multiple county departments, residents, business owners, developers and design professionals to bring forth high-quality development proposals, to develop comprehensive plans, ordinances and programs to provide for future growth, and evaluate land use and development proposals.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Senior Planner (Planner III): (Full Salary range $66,613 - $104,429)
Education: Graduation from a recognized College or University with a bachelors degree in planning, landscape architecture, public administration, geography, architecture, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or a closely related field. Masters degree preferred.
Four years of increasingly responsible professional land use planning experience: AICP certification preferred. Demonstrated advanced skill and proficiency in making presentations to boards, commissions, and citizen groups, successful management of legislative review cases, site plan review applications, and comprehensive plan development and implementation.
Knowledge of planning principles, practices, and techniques as well as planning-related ordinances, regulations, and policies. Demonstrated leadership skills such as proactively completing projects that benefit the County. Experience in a municipal government environment preferred.
Planner I,II: (Full Salary range I and II $58,095 - $97,371)
Education: Graduation from a recognized College or University with a bachelors degree in planning, transportation planning, public administration, urban geography, architecture, civil engineering, environmental sciences, landscape architecture, or a closely related field.
Considerable professional experience (no less than 3 years for Planner II); masters degree may substitute for some experience; AICP certification preferred.
Considerable knowledge of land use planning principles, practices, and techniques as well as planning-related ordinances, regulations, and policies. Demonstrated skill in making presentations to boards, commissions, and citizen groups, successful management of legislative review cases, site plan review applications, and comprehensive planning projects.
