URL: https://www.actonma.gov/jobsThe Town of Acton is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking individual for a full-time Planning Director overseeing the Planning and Conservation Divisions. This senior-level position will report directly to the Town Manager.
General Duties and Responsibilities: This person plans, organizes, and directs the overall operation of the Planning Division and Conservation Division including budget preparation and administration. Serves as the staff advisor and manages staff whom provide support to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and other Boards, Committees and Commissions (i.e. Community Preservation Committee and Historic District Commission, to name a few). This person will be responsible for current and long-range planning projects and grant management related work as required. Conducts special projects as required. Supervises three Planners, Conservation Agent, Community Conservation Specialist and shared Administrative Assistants. Serves as the Flood Plain Manager. Help lead impactful initiatives in affordable housing and environmental sustainability while working in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Eight (8) years of progressively responsible planning experience of which four (4) years in a supervisory capacity and Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration or a related field or any combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: None
Special Requirements: AICP Certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire. Knowledge of municipal Zoning Bylaw and Town's Subdivision Rules and Regulations. Knowledge of Massachusetts Laws concerning land use development and planning (specifically Chapter 40A and 40B). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Skill in public speaking.
Pay Rate: Starting range at $106,000 to $123,000 depending upon qualifications and experience.
