The Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George's County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, Prince George's has a population of approximately 900,000 residents and is home to The University of Maryland at College Park, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Joint Base Andrews. Prince George's County is also home to many attractions such as Northwest Stadium (formerly FedEx Field), National Harbor, and Six Flags Amusement Park. The Planner I will play an important role in the review of applicable public and private land development applications through various processes. The position also requires the ability to apply land use regulations and to meet deadlines. The duties of this position include technical review, and the preparation of staff reports and memoranda for site specific applications and other projects as assigned.
Examples of Important Duties:
- Reviews plans and permit applications to approve/disapprove building, grading or other permits. Identifies problems and changes needed for relevant code and resolution compliance and prepares written comments for applicant correspondence.
- Provides a wide range of technical assistance to support the section's development review practice including review of pre-acceptance development submissions, site plans, prior development approvals, community plans, motor vehicle traffic studies, pedestrian and bicycle adequacy studies, and site visits.
- Attends Planning Board hearings, Subdivision Development Review Committee meetings, and other regulatory review meetings with the public or development applicants as necessary.
- Reviews other related development applications for transportation purposes such as Authorization to Build in County Rights-of-Way, Water and Sewer Amendment requests, Maryland Clearing House applications, and Mandatory Referrals.
- Enhances and supports presentations to planning officials, the general public, County Council, etc. Develops and prepares visual and written materials for presentations as advised. Answers questions based on materials presented.
- Communicates with citizens, developers, engineers, advocates, architects, attorneys, department planning staff, and other agencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $56,358 to $99,814 (salary is commensurate with education and experience) at the Planner I level with excellent benefits including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, and employee pension plan.
The Prince George's County Planning Department is conveniently located in Largo, Maryland near Metro and I-495.
