Position: ZONING DIRECTOR (DIVISION DIRECTOR IV)
Salary: $117,118 Annually, negotiable depending on qualifications. The salary range for this position's pay grade is $117,118 to $218,160.
Department: Planning, Zoning & Building/Zoning
Location: 2300 N. Jog Road, WPB
Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday

Palm Beach County, a metropolitan area of over 1.5 million residents, seeks an experienced professional to lead our Zoning Division. This senior management position provides direction in the execution of administrative programs, policies, procedures, and applicable codes. The Director monitors program effectiveness and improves customer service responses while being a cooperative partner throughout the development review process, and also represents the Department's mission, vision, and values at Board of County Commissioners (BCC), advisory board and other public meetings. The Zoning Director manages the operations of over 50 professional, technical, administrative and support staff engaged in the Division functions of: Administration, Administrative Review, Public Hearing processes, Code Revision (Unified Land Development Code [ULDC]), Public Information, and Permitting and Landscaping while overseeing a budget of over $5.5 million.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the administration and enforcement of land use regulations and the development, implementation, and revision of code provisions. Our next Zoning Director will be a dynamic leader who values communication, relationship and team building, delegation and adaptability while being an informed, analytical decision maker.
We are looking for a highly experienced, innovative, and motivated individual to work with the Planning, Zoning & Building Department team and to help lead the County's growth and development, now and in the future.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
- Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Law or closely related field; minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the enforcement of land use regulations which includes three (3) years of responsible management or supervisory experience, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Law or closely related field; minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the enforcement of land use regulations which includes three (3) years of responsible management or supervisory experience, or
- Unrelated Bachelor's Degree; minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the enforcement of land use regulations which includes three (3) years of responsible management or supervisory experience, or
- Associate's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Law or closely related field; minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the enforcement of land use regulations which includes three (3) years of responsible management or supervisory experience, or
- Graduation from high school/equivalent recognized certification; minimum of nine (9) years of professional experience in the enforcement of land use regulations which includes three (3) years of responsible management or supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
- Current membership with the American Institute of Landscape Architects, American Institute of Certified Planners and/or American Institute of Architects,
- Knowledge of the PBC Unified Land Development Code,
- Experience with plan review procedures and/or site development and design associated with land development, and
- Experience managing a staff of 10 or more employees.
