The City of West Linn is looking for a Senior or Associate Planner to join our team! Position will be filled based on experience and qualifications.
Senior Planner- $40.85 - $52.87/hour
Under general direction and supervision, performs advanced, professional, and technical project management, analysis, and evaluation in the areas of long-range planning, development review, transportation planning, and policy development; serves as a lead on large projects, coordinating the work of consultants, and professional and technical staff. Prepares and presents reports to various city boards and commissions and represents City before civic and neighborhood groups. Provides staff support and assistance to City Council appointed committees, boards and commissions, and coordinates the efforts of representatives from other divisions or departments on special projects. Position is responsible for the investigation, development and implementation of assigned planning and projects.
Associate Planner-$38.13 - $49.36/hour
Under general direction and supervision, performs complex research, analysis and evaluation activities focusing on transportation, long range planning and land use. Prepares planning studies and makes presentations to various boards and commissions. Coordinates comprehensive planning activities with regional and state planning organizations. Provides staff support to City Council and appointed boards and commissions and coordinates regional and state planning efforts.

- May review work products of employees in the Planning Department
- Prepares and presents technical reports on land use and development activity.
- Interprets and applies City planning policies and code provisions to specific issues.
- Works with City staff to provide general, technical and policy information to: Planning Commission; City Council; Economic Development Committee; Historic Review Board; general public; builders and developers on matters relating to the department and planning and development of land.
- Coordinates the activities and oversees the work of outside consultants; meet with contractors, boards, commissions, and staff to identify and resolve problems; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
- Researches and prepares ordinances; standards and procedures for the implementation, amendment and updating of the City's Comprehensive Plan and other related ordinances and documents.
- Prepares requests for proposals (RFP's), analyzes responses and manages contracts for a variety of contractual professional services.
- Works with the Community Development Director, Director of Public Works and Police Chief to ensure that planning, building, engineering, public works and public safety departments are coordinated in both long-range planning and specific development applications.
- Provides staff with interpretations of complex regulations, plans and policies relating to land-use development and prepares reports for complex projects.
- Applies for funding sources from agencies, such as county, regional, State or Federal Government on specific planning projects.
- Represents the City in State and regional planning efforts.
- Answers inquiries from the public concerning development regulations, policies and programs.
- May perform general administrative and planning functions by attending meetings and carrying out routine planning activities related to plan and zone changes and development review applications.

Associate Planner
- Contributes to a positive work environment.

- Provides general and technical information and interprets planning and zoning ordinances, and codes to land developers and the general public.
- Performs technical research and prepares reports on comprehensive plan changes, zone changes, variances, conditional use permits, partitions, subdivision, design review, annexations and other land use proposals.
- Processes all types of land use applications and annexation proposals, as prescribed by the City's Development Code.
- Assists in conducting long range planning activities impacting the City. Typical areas of involvement include land use, transportation and parks and recreation planning.
- Conducts research and prepares proposals for Plan and Development Code revision.
- Attends meetings of various State, regional and City boards, commissions, committees and council, presenting reports and recommendations on a variety of issues and proposals as assigned. May present testimony and field questions during public hearings.
- Assists in grant applications and monitoring expenditures of grant funds.
