JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the position is to manage all current planning and conservation activities. This is accomplished by administering zoning and subdivision ordinances; coordinating the development review process, managing conservation projects, preparing and presenting staff reports and ordinance revisions; providing technical support and zoning assistance; preparing plans and studies, and providing information and assistance to developers, builders and the general public. Other duties include managing the permitting process and environmental programs, including Tree City USA, Tree Rebate Program, Scenic City, Dark Sky Community designation and others as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Processes development and permit applications by examining applications for compliance; soliciting input from staff and external stakeholders; scheduling hearing and associated actions; and monitoring permits and applications throughout the approval process.
  • Initiates and manages tree preservation and conservation programs promoting and enhancing the natural beauty, canopy cover and unique ranch/rural character of the community.
  • Facilitates meetings by planning and reviewing agendas; preparing staff reports and presentations; monitoring public hearing notices; and generating hearing notices.
  • Responds to inquiries by providing technical and professional information and assistance; reviewing information for conformance; providing documentation to citizens; and reviewing submittals and resubmittals.
  • Ensures compliance with statutes by administering the zoning, platting and variance process; following established procedures; monitoring and updates development schedules; and reviewing guidelines.
  • Supervises the permitting process by monitoring permit software; providing guidance on the process; responding to inquiries; and reviewing permits for zoning compliance.
  • Ensures GIS maps at the Town are up to date to reflect current zoning designations, annexations, and utility infrastructure.
  • Manages environmental and conservation development efforts to plan towards growth that promotes quality of life initiatives, including the Tree City USA, Scenic City, and Dark Sky Community Certifications.
  • Facilitates participation in regional planning efforts such as the Denton County Greenbelt Plan that promotes local participation in floodplain preservation and conservation easements.
