The Associate Planner performs a variety of professional planning duties in both long-range and project-based planning. This position supports the city's goals for responsible growth, development, and community enhancement through research, analysis, and policy implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct professional city planning work in long-range and policy planning, including citywide, community, and neighborhood plans.
  • Review, research, analyze, and process land use proposals, development projects, and site plans.
  • Prepare reports, staff recommendations, and presentations related to assigned planning activities.
  • Assist with zoning and planning administration, environmental review, plan preparation, and special projects.
  • Attend and present at monthly Planning Commission meetings and occasional Board of Aldermen meetings.
  • Provide professional support to decision-making bodies, answer questions from citizens, board members, and applicants, and ensure clear communication througout the public process

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in City Planning or a related field (required).
  • Experience: Minimum 1–4 years of relevant planning experience.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in process and/or AICP certification.
  • Skills: GIS knowledge and experience strongly preferred.
  • ensure clear communication throughout the public process.
