The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Zoning Administrator.
The Zoning Administrator administers, coordinates, and enforces the Aurora Zoning Ordinance, under the administrative direction of the Zoning and Planning Director; also assists staff performing these duties.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Assist in overseeing administration of the Aurora Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Historic Preservation, and FoxWalk Overlay District; Assist in coordinating and facilitating the Development Services Team (DST) Meetings with developers, property owners, and City staff; Assist and oversees the building permits, business registrations, and city licenses reviews for Zoning & Planning; Liaison to Property Standards regarding the interpretation and enforcement of the Aurora Code of Ordinances including but not limited to Aurora Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Historic Preservation, and FoxWalk Overlay District; Assists in the dissemination of information including but not limited to written reports, mapped data, and analytic studies; Coordination of responsibilities between Zoning & Planning and other agencies, and Divisions/Department of the City; Assists in the delegation of responsibilities and tasks; Assists with the evaluation of development proposals to determine if they meet Zoning requirements for the City; Assists with meetings that may require participation; Assist in the preparation and presentation of analytical studies; Assists with overseeing the representation of the City at various functions and meetings including but not limited to hearings and appeals for non-conformity, neighborhood/ward meetings, Commissions and Boards, Committee and Council Meetings; Works with all departments/divisions primarily engaged in development and redevelopment process; Assists with formulating administrative procedures and policies; Assists with providing training and assistance to staff as needed; Assists in research and responding to inquiries from the public; Oversee and assist in processing and evaluating all zoning permit applications and assists in enforcing the Aurora Code of Ordinances including but not limited to Variances, Rezonings, Conditional Uses, Planned Developments; Assists in reviewing all building permit applications for compliance with the Aurora Zoning Ordinance. Oversees and assists in reviewing zoning regulations as applied to issuance of licenses including but not limited to liquor license, tobacco license, hotel license, mobile food units license, digital message boards, digital billboards, and amusement license; Oversee and assist in investigating complaints regarding possible Aurora Code, Aurora Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Historic Preservation, and FoxWalk Overlay District violations; Oversee and assist in performing on-site inspections of building grounds for determination of potential Aurora Code, Aurora Zoning Ordinance, and FoxWalk Overlay District violations, and confer with the general public concerning necessary remedial action on violations; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Urban Planning plus six years professional planning/zoning experience in a municipal/county setting. Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning plus six years of professional planning/zoning experience in a municipal/county setting. Master's Degree in a field related to Urban Planning, with a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or a related field, plus five years of professional planning/zoning experience in a municipal/county setting. Master's Degree in Urban Planning, with a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or a related field, plus four years of professional planning/zoning experience in a municipal/county setting. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, executive position. The salary range is $114,088.00 - $153,379.20 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range.
