What You'll Be Doing

  • Shaping places and communities by contributing to projects that improve neighborhoods, town centers and public spaces.
  • Be hands-on with real projects by assessing planning applications, drawings and supporting documents.
  • Be a problem-solver by suggesting solutions to help applicants overcome planning challenges.
  • Writing basic reports supported by relevant exhibits and preparing public noticing documents.

  • Enjoys collaborating with planners, applicants and the public and communicates clearly whether in writing, online, or in-person.

The Position

Under general or direct supervision performs a variety of responsible technical, office and on-site paraprofessional tasks in support of planning functions; provides information to the public and explains requirements/regulations; examines routine construction plans, prepares reports and performs related work as required.

Employment Guidelines:

Education and Experience

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Graduation from high school and completion of two years of college towards an associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a related field.

AND

  • One year of office or field work experience in a municipal planning or building department or a related area.
