Description:

This position is responsible for professional planning work of intermediate difficulty. Duties and responsibilities include providing technical assistance to the Town Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Historic Zoning Commission; assists in the preparation of annexation studies, land use plans, and major thoroughfare plans; assists in the review of site plans, subdivision plats, and reviews variance and special exception requests; and performs related work as required. Under limited supervision, reports to the Town Planner.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position.   • Assists in providing technical assistance to the Town Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Historic Zoning Commission to ensure that all residential, commercial, and industrial developments meet the guidelines of the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Design Review Manual, and Sign Ordinance.
  • Assists in the preparation of annexation studies, land use plans, major thoroughfare plans, community facility plans, and other long-range plans as the need arises.
  • Assists in the review of subdivision plats for conformity to the Subdivision Regulations and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission.
  • Assists in the review of site plans for conformity to the Zoning Ordinance and Design Review Manual and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission.
  • Assists in the review of rezoning and annexation requests for conformity to the Land Use Plan and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission and Town Council.
  • Assists in the review of variance and special exception requests and makes recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
  • Administers the Mobile Food Vendor permitting program.
  • Reviews applications for sign permits to ensure compliance with the Sign Ordinance and issues permits.
  • Reviews applications for building permits to ensure compliance with the Zoning Ordinance and any applicable special zoning district requirements.
  • Conducts site inspections for past project approvals for long-term land use code compliance with approved site plan/development plans.
  • Reviews applications for business licenses to ensure compliance with the Zoning Ordinance.
  • Develops and maintains databases and maps utilizing ArcView and related software.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Provide coverage in absence of other personnel.
  • Work safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations. Report any accidents immediately to supervisor
  • Correctly wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment. Report any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
  • Conduct behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customer's perception of town facility.
  • Promote the teamwork environment. Assist coworkers when necessary
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of machines, work area and facility. Report incidents, or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Geoscience, Geography, or a closely related field, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Pay begins at $67,292.55 yearly salary and is dependent upon applicable experience.

In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.
