We partner with cities, organizations, and neighborhoods to design public spaces, craft forward-thinking plans, and develop strategies grounded in authentic community engagement. Our work bridges design, policy, and participation to create places that reflect local identity and generate lasting impact.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Mid–Senior Urban Planner to join our growing interdisciplinary team. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker who thrives in a collaborative studio environment, is deeply passionate about community-driven planning, and is ready to take on increased responsibility in project leadership, team coordination, and mentorship.

You will play a key role in shaping planning strategy, guiding workstreams from vision through implementation, and translating complex research and policy into clear, compelling, and actionable plans.

Location: Hybrid – San Antonio, Texas or Plano, Texas

Commitment: Full-time | ~25–30% Travel

Responsibilities

As a Mid–Senior Urban Planner, you will:

  • Lead planning strategy and execution across parks and open space systems, downtown revitalization, corridors and mobility, housing, and land use initiatives.
  • Conduct research, policy analysis, spatial analysis, and data-driven decision-making to inform planning direction.
  • Develop high-quality written, graphic, and visual storytelling for public-facing plans and reports.
  • Facilitate community engagement processes, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and public presentations.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary teams, clients, and agency partners to ensure alignment and momentum.
  • Mentor junior planners and interns, supporting professional growth within Urban Alchemy Collective.

  • Strong written, graphic, and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible strategies.
  • Experience leading discussions, workshops, and stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Strategic thinker comfortable operating at both the big-picture vision level and detailed policy implementation level.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite; working knowledge of SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary coordination and client collaboration.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced studio setting.
  • AICP certification preferred or actively pursuing certification.

Education, Experience & Licensure

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Architecture, Urban Design, GIS, or a related field (required).
  • 5–7+ years of professional urban planning experience, preferably within Texas or similar growth contexts.
  • AICP certified or on a clear path toward certification.

Why Join Urban Alchemy Collective?

  • Lead and shape meaningful public realm and urban projects across Texas.
  • Work in a design-first studio that values ideas, craft, and community impact.
  • Collaborate with a small, ambitious team where your voice and leadership matter.
  • Enjoy hybrid flexibility, professional growth opportunities, and mentorship pathways.
