JOB DESCRIPTION

This position works as a permit reviewer (Planner I) within the Zoning Permits Section of the Zoning Administration Division. In this position, the permit reviewer performs a variety of complex permit review functions to determine compliance with the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance, Noise Ordinance, and other applicable land development codes.

Responsibilities of this position include:

1. Researches, reviews, and prepares written and/or verbal responses to permit applications, such as sign permits, temporary outdoor use and activity permits, commercial building permits, nonresidential use permits (aka occupancy permits), and noise waiver requests.
2. Provides commentary and analysis on special exception applications for modifications of sign regulations.
3. Provides verbal and written responses to questions regarding the Zoning Ordinance, as received from the public, county and/or state agencies, or appointed and elected officials.
4. Reads and interprets technical documents to include sign permit graphics, sites plans, and survey plats.
5. Conducts site inspections as needed or as requested.

Note: The salary for this position will not exceed the midpoint of the advertised salary range.

In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance are subject to supervisor approval and county policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

• Graduation from an accredited, four-year college or university in a planning related field.
