JOB DESCRIPTION

The Village of Northfield, Illinois, is seeking an urban planning student for an internship opportunity in our Community Development Department.

Northfield is located in the North Shore area of Chicago just 30 minutes from the Loop. The Community Development Department provides the following services to the community:

• Planning and Zoning
• Economic Development
• Engineering
• Building/Code Enforcement (Inspectional Services)
• Public Health Services

The Community Development Intern will assist in wide variety of programs including general research and citizen engagement, zoning entitlement application review, economic development efforts, planning/building policy research and code enforcement. This position will involve regular fieldwork, assisting at the front counter and other duties as assigned. The intern will have the opportunity to work during the fall and winter, if they are interested.

Requirements: The candidate should be a current undergraduate or graduate student in urban planning or related field; must have effective oral /written communication skills; must have excellent organizational and time management skills; must interact well with others; must have competency in Word and Outlook; must have a valid driver's license.

Supervisor: The intern will report directly to the Community Development Director.

Work Hours: 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday)

Start Date: May 1, 2026 but flexible.
