This job posting is intended to fill up to two (2) positions, depending on qualifications and organizational needs.
The Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Transportation Planner and Senior Transportation Planner. These positions support multimodal transportation planning efforts serving Sarasota and Manatee Counties. The MPO is the federally and state-designated agency responsible for developing regional transportation plans and programs.
Transportation Planner
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as liaison to local jurisdictions and provide data analysis, project review, and technical support.
- Assist with development of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), Project Priorities, and other MPO products.
- Collect, analyze, and report transportation system performance data.
- Attend MPO Board, advisory committee, and partner meetings; prepare agendas, reports, and presentations. Give presentations as assigned; and respond to direction of Board and committees.
- Support transit planning activities, reports, and grant documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related analytical field.
- Two (2) years of relevant planning or public-sector experience.
- Master's degree in Urban/Regional Planning is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Senior Transportation Planner
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development of the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), Longe Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), Project Priorities, and other MPO transportation planning products.
- Perform or manage complex transportation planning studies and analyses.
- Manage transportation system performance data and reporting.
- Coordinate planning activities with local jurisdictions and regional partners.
- Coordinate with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on plan approvals, compliance, and certifications.
- Support project scoping, contract compliance, invoicing, and deliverables.
- Attend MPO Board, advisory committee, and partner meetings; prepare agendas, reports, and presentations. Give presentations as assigned; and respond to direction of Board and committees.
- Represent the organization in the community and support the public participation plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, or closely related field with six (6) years of progressively responsible local, state or federal planning experience.
- Master's degree with four (4) years of professional experience preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
