Under administrative direction, is responsible for performing administrative and supervisory work requiring extensive knowledge and ability in the field of Urban Planning. Assists with the administration of planning studies and programs. Work involves responsibility for maintaining existing programs and developing new, innovative planning programs in support of the general plan for the comprehensive development of the City. Responsible for the formulation, coordination, and research of specialized planning activities to include comprehensive planning, accessibility planning, transportation, land use, zoning, neighborhood and urban design, current planning or data management. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Work Schedule
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; May include evenings and weekends hours to attend community meetings and public hearings
Essential Job Functions
- Develops planning programs for division.
- Oversees the planning, preparation, and submission of division reports including the budget.
- Arranges for public hearings.
- Assists in preparation of reports, comprehensive plans, and recommendations to the Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, City Council and similar officials on planning matters.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff members.
- Prepares written reports and presentations.
- May act for the Assistant Director in their absence.
- May monitor citywide ADA compliance.
- May administer contracts from granting agencies.
- May oversee the production of studies under agency contracts.
- May develop grant proposals.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible urban planning experience to include two (2) years supervisory or management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
- Congress of New Urbanism (CNU).
