SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $115,000 Annually
POSITION: City Planner
POSITION NO: 3.302
DEPT: Community Development
This is highly responsible professional work in the Community Development Department's Planning Division. Responsibilities include processing site plan reviews, zoning petitions, annexation applications, variance petitions, comprehensive plan amendments, and conditional use applications; presenting to City Council; supervising the Senior Planner; preparing the division's budget, special projects, studies, and reports; historic preservation; downtown redevelopment; river preservation; and development and maintenance of the Land Development Code and Level of Service Standards. Requires coordination with other City staff, contractors, developers, land use professionals, the City/County Planning Commission and other governmental agencies, and the public.
The position functions as part of the Community Development Department management team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning and the land development process.
- Knowledge of laws governing land actions and comprehensive planning.
- Experience with site plan reviews, zoning petitions, annexation applications, variance petitions, comprehensive plan amendments, and conditional use applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to review concept plans and site development plans; prepare reports, maintain records, make professional presentations, and perform other essential duties.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with the ability to produce high-level professional documents, reports, spread sheets, and presentations; including the use of advanced formatting, styles, templates, data management, and integrated media.
- Ability to manage and maintain large document libraries and workflow records on shared file servers; including Microsoft SharePoint and in-house Microsoft networks.
Training, Certification, and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Community/Urban Planning or related field (Master's degree is preferred)
- At least 5 years of planning experience in a public planning organization.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a related field required.
- American Institute of Certified Planners certification required.
Special Requirements
- Valid Florida Driver's License
