JOB DESCRIPTION
The Village of Lake Zurich is seeking its next Community Development Director. The Community Development Director provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for all community development functions, guiding the Village’s efforts to foster thoughtful growth, vibrant neighborhoods, and a strong economic future.
Candidate Qualities:
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of organizational priorities, departmental objectives, and strategic initiatives. Aligns daily work and decision-making with established goals that advance the organization’s mission and vision.
- Analyzes information objectively and evaluates situations using logic, evidence, and sound judgment. Demonstrates the ability to think strategically and anticipate potential outcomes.
- Effectively translates knowledge, training, and experience into practical solutions and sound decision-making.
- Effectively prioritizes tasks, manages workloads, and allocates resources to meet operational demands and deadlines.
- Communicates clearly, professionally, and effectively in both verbal and written formats. Actively listens, shares information appropriately, and fosters open, respectful dialogue with employees, leadership, stakeholders, and the public.

Position Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have:
- a Master’s degree with coursework in planning, zoning, site and landscape planning, or land development.
- extensive experience working in municipal government
- an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification issued by the American Planning Association
- a valid driver's license issued by the IL Secretary of State.
Selected candidate must also successfully complete a background check and post-offer employment physical examination including a drug screening.
