JOB DESCRIPTION

The Historic Preservation Division Manager is a full-time role based in Santa Fe, NM, with flexibility for partial work-from-home arrangements.  This role oversees the city's historic preservation division, including the administration of ordinances, guidelines, and review processes that protect historic structures, preserve district character, and monitor archaeological resources.  Responsibilities include reviewing development and rehabilitation proposals, preparing and reviewing staff reports, and presenting recommendations to boards, commissions, and community stakeholders.  The Historic Preservation Manager coordinates with planning, zoning, and building staff to ensure projects comply with preservation and design standards and city policies, and provides technical guidance to property owners, design professionals, staff, and the public.  The role involves leading preservation planning initiatives, managing surveys and documentation of historic resources, overseeing grants and special projects, and representing the city in regional, state, and national preservation efforts.  The Manager supervises senior planners, planners, and inspectors, maintains accurate records, and supports public outreach, education, and engagement related to historic preservation.   Working for the City of Santa Fe offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to the stewardship of one of the nation's most historic and distinctive cities.
