JOB DESCRIPTION

Development Planner

The Development Planner supports place-based community development efforts in the greater Dayton region. The Development Planner reports directly to the Vice President of Community Development. This position supports the work of the VP and senior project managers engaged in planning and real estate development aligned with neighborhood priorities and revitalization efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Planning. Creates neighborhood and housing development plans and strategies aligned with communities’ priorities and organizational goals and solid urban design.
  • Development Process. Guide real estate development projects through public hearings, community engagement, and government approval processes while partnering with private developers, investors, and the local community to advance development.
  • Engagement. Facilitates community meetings, workshops, listening sessions, and engagement activities that encourage resident participation in community revitalization efforts.
  • Collaboration. Collaborates with internal departments at CityWide, external partners, and public agencies and develops new partnerships to advance neighborhood development projects.
  • Project Management. Manages neighborhood redevelopment projects, including engagement, planning, and physical redevelopment.
  • Funding. Cognizant of funding sources for community development and able to create simple pro formas as projects are explored.
  • Data Analysis. Monitor neighborhood trends and utilize data to support planning, decision-making, and program evaluation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, community development, real estate development, public administration, or a related field
  • Five years of experience in community development and neighborhood planning, including real estate projects and planning processes that lead to adopted plans
  • Ability to read basic architectural site layout plans and working knowledge of GIS
  • Experience working with diverse urban communities and stakeholder groups
  • Strong people skills, exceptional public presentation skills, and the capacity to negotiate effectively under occasional pressure from public stakeholders
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and community centered approach
  • Autonomy to balance independent work with limited guidance and complete collaborative work with team members and the community
  • High level of resourcefulness, flexibility, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe
  • Willingness to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Complete and pass all background checks and clearances
  • Valid Ohio driver's license
  • This position requires an in-office schedule at least four days a week, with the ability to work from home one day a week

Desired but not required

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) credential.
  • Housing Development Credential

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 depending on experience.
