JOB DESCRIPTION

MIDAS Council of Governments, a six-county regional planning agency serving northwest Iowa, is seeking an experienced planning or community development professional to join our team as Community Development Director.

Established in 1974, MIDAS works with member governments in Calhoun, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Webster, and Wright Counties to identify needs, develop strategies, and implement solutions that support the region. The Community Development Director will make a meaningful impact across the region by working directly with local governments and community leaders on a variety of planning, economic development, and grant-related projects.

The Community Development Director provides leadership and oversight for the agency's Community Development Department. Responsibilities include directing, coordinating and evaluating departmental operations, programs, activities and services, supervising and mentoring staff, assisting in developing the department budget, and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in community planning and development, municipal operations, and managing staff. This position requires strong leadership, communication, organizational, and writing skills. The position involves regional travel and occasional evening meetings. The position will primarily be based at the MIDAS office in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with opportunities for teleworking.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field;
• At least four years of relevant professional experience;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
• Experience with ArcGIS Pro is desired, but not required;
• A valid driver's license; and
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
