The city's code of ordinances permits roof-mounted solar energy systems by right in certain districts and with a specific use permit in others, allows ground-mounted systems only on parcels of a certain size in certain districts, and requires an analysis of impacts to existing trees.

Roof-mounted systems are permitted by right in agricultural and industrial districts; a specific use permit is required in other districts, and impact on existing trees on the lot and neighboring properties must be considered (§11-3).

Ground-mounted systems are permitted by right on parcels larger than 5 acres in the agricultural and industrial districts; they are prohibited elsewhere. The regulation establishes height, setback, and location restrictions (§11-4). Planned development districts may not be used to site sustainable energy devices (§11-6). A waiver is required to remove trees larger than 6" caliper from the installation site (§11-8).
