Solar Energy

The city's land development code provides an expedited county permitting process for rooftop solar, but it does not override restrictive private covenants or provide solar access rights. It includes a section on rooftop photovoltaic systems utilizing the "Go SOLAR Broward Rooftop Solar Challenge" permitting process, allowing these systems as permitted accessory equipment in all zoning districts and exempting them from community appearance board review and site plan approval requirements (§98-34). A city permit, however, does not trump private covenants that may be more restrictive, and does not provide solar access rights.
