solar energy

The city's zoning code permits accessory solar energy systems in all districts subject to standards. It addresses solar energy systems in its section on accessory uses (§24-183.3.b). Solar energy systems are allowed as an accessory use in all districts, subject to requirements. Systems must meet height and setback requirements of the district and comply with any accessory structure restrictions; they may require screening and must be securely anchored. Systems not used for one year or longer are considered abandoned and must be removed by the owner. Upon request, the planning commission may grant waivers of setback or height requirements if such a waiver will not present undue hardship to adjoining properties. The zoning code defines solar energy systems as an example of accessory use (§24-452).
