Solar Energy

The borough's zoning ordinance provides supplementary regulations for solar energy systems, permitting them in all districts and requiring developments and structures to be oriented for maximum passive and active solar use (Sec. 540). Solar energy systems are exempted from district height limitations and related apparatus may project into required yard setbacks. The code also provides that solar collector owners may file for solar access protection by documenting the location of the system on the property and the land and airspace that must remain open to protect solar access. It prohibits the erection of buildings or planting of vegetation that would shade a solar collector between 9am and 3pm.
