Solar Energy

The city's zoning code permits accessory rooftop and freestanding solar energy systems by right in all districts (Table 17.4.1), subject to standards addressing placement and lot coverage (§17.5.5.3).

These standards also explicitly sanction the use of solar easements to protect solar access (§17.5.5.3.A.3).

Primary-use solar energy systems (defined as solar gardens) are permitted by right in commercial and light industrial districts (Table 17.4.1).

Food Systems | Urban Livestock

The city's zoning code addresses animal keeping in its supplemental standards section (§17.4.3.1). Allowable numbers of large animals are listed based on minimum lot size and zoning district. Horses, cows, llamas, alpacas, and goats require a minimum open lot area of 9,000 SF, and emus and ostriches require 8,000 SF. Standards address enclosures and fencing, accessory structures, and location and setbacks (§17.4.3.1.C).

Allowable numbers of small animals as an accessory use are listed for rabbits and chinchillas, poultry, and pigeons. Allowable numbers of small animals as a limited accessory use are listed for hens, ducks, and drakes, and dwarf goats. Standards are also provided for enclosures, locations, and setbacks (§17.4.3.1.D).

Apiaries are allowed as a limited accessory use with a minimum parcel size of 6,000 SF; standards address locations, setbacks, flyway barriers (illustration provided), and water supply (§17.4.3.1.E).
