The city's zoning ordinance permits photovoltaic systems and solar thermal systems by right in nonresidential zoning districts subject to screening requirements but requires a conditional use permit if in front or side yards. Systems are permitted by right in residential zoning districts subject to screening requirements, but not in front or side yards. Additional requirements are given for lots subject to the shoreland district regulations (Sec. 36-833).
