Solar Energy

The city's zoning regulations include supplementary regulations for residential solar energy devices (Sec. 18.84.440). Solar energy systems are allowed as roof-mounted systems incidental to dwelling units in compliance with standards for panel placement and glare reduction. Freestanding solar energy systems are not permitted. A building permit is required for installation. The city denies any obligation to protect solar access; solar energy system owners may obtain solar easements as provided by the state but these must be privately enforced.
