In the town's zoning code, the definitions section includes several solar-related terms (Sec. 17.04.030).

The zoning code includes a chapter on solar collection systems (Chap. 17.38) that addresses different types of systems. Building-mounted solar collection systems are permitted in all zoning districts subject to standards for roof-mounted and wall-mounted systems that address structural soundness, size, and both height above the roof and total height (Sec. 17.38.010). Free-standing solar collection systems require special exception approval in all districts (Sec. 17.38.020). Permits are required; property owners are responsible for negotiating with other property owners to secure any necessary solar easements to protect solar access; systems should be located to avoid glare and minimize visual impacts (Sec. 17.38.030).

The code also provides specific standards for free-standing solar collection systems as a special exception (Sec. 17.48.400). Standards place limits on the total allowed square footage footprint of systems and address height, lot placement, and setbacks.
