Solar Energy

The town's zoning code defines and provides supplementary regulations for ground-mounted solar collectors (Sec. 400, Sec. 725). Ground-mounted solar collectors are not permitted in residential or open space districts and require special use permits in other districts (Sec. 602). Standards address height, setbacks, site security, and decommissioning; development plan review is required, and systems are not subject to lot coverage restrictions.

In the town's subdivision regulations, one item on the major subdivision master plan checklist is noting the development suitability of building site locations, including annotations to note site-scale differences in microclimate such as southern exposures good for solar heating (Sec. 5.6).
