Solar Energy

The city's Sustainability Action Plan addresses clean and efficient energy. Action 3A, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, calls on the city to actively promote the installation of solar water heating and PV systems on residential and commercial buildings (p. 3-12).

It assigns responsibility to the Community Development department and sets progress indicator targets of installing solar water heaters on 2% of single-family units and 1% of commercial and multifamily units and installing solar PV on 3% of existing homes and 2MW/100,000 SF on nonresidential properties by 2020, and by 2035 increasing those numbers to 5%, 3%, 7%, and 5 MW/250,000 SF, respectively (p. 3-13).

The plan also calculates a GHG reduction potential from renewable energy of 3,447 MT CO2e/year by 2020 and 9,743 MT CO2e/year by 2035 (p. C-7).
