The town's zoning ordinance defines a solar energy system (Sec. 24-2-2). Chapter 15 describes solar access incentives and protection. The purpose of the ordinance is to encourage and protect the use of passive and active solar energy systems. Objects such as buildings and trees cannot be constructed or placed in a manner that obstructs the sun from reaching 90 percent of a solar energy system from 10 am - 3 pm on any day. No building permit will be issued for a building that will infringe on neighboring solar access where an existing solar energy system is in place (Sec. 24-15-2).
