Solar Energy

The county's comprehensive plan notes that solar and wind energy generation are compatible with the county's farming heritage (Chap. 3, p. 85.)

The Environmental Stewardship chapter (Chapter 7) discusses renewable energy sources including solar. Solar-related policies including locating solar energy generation equipment on County facilities where it is advantageous, encouraging developments that use energy smart site design, working with developers and energy providers to design neighborhoods with optimum solar orientation, and developing/amending ordinances to protect solar access (Policies 7.3.1.3; 7.4.2.1; 7.6.1.3; 7.6.1.5).

Urban Heat Resilience

The county’s comprehensive plan addresses urban heat in its Urban Heat Island goal. It identifies three actions to help achieve the goal, including working with municipalities to avoid the development of heat islands, reducing the surface dedicated to parking, and encouraging the use of cool materials, cool roofs, and green roofs.
