Solar Energy

The town's subdivision regulations address solar considerations in its section on general requirements (§121-25). Lot lines should whenever possible run due north to due south to improve solar access, shadow projections should be examined when proposed buildings are sited near each other to ensure that solar access is not impaired, and streets should be laid out north-to-south to maximize solar access for solar energy systems.

In the subdivision regulations, blocks and lots requirements address solar as well. Lot design should be appropriate for enabling solar access, and parking areas should be located to provide a buffer from shadows that would interfere with solar energy systems (§§121-15.CD). Open space should also be located to provide a buffer from shadows and improve direct access to sunlight (§121-13.C).
