The city's zoning code includes a section on solar panels in residential districts (Sec. 5.34). Solar panels are considered accessory uses and must comply with accessory use standards, as well as additional requirements. Roof- or wall-mounted systems must be mounted parallel with surface and may not project more than 12 inches. Freestanding systems are special approval uses and may not be located in side or front yards; they are included in maximum area coverage calculations.
