Solar Energy

The township's zoning ordinance provides that solar energy systems are permitted in all zoning district subject to standards. Systems must not pollute the environment if a failure occurs; may be passive, PV, or hot water systems; all applicable permits must be obtained; for roof-mounted systems, documentation that the roof can support the weight is required; must meet height and setback requirements; and no adjacent property owner is required to cut or remove vegetation or structures (Sec. 195-112). The code also defines solar energy systems (Sec. 195-10). Solar energy system equipment may project into required yards up to 4 feet (Sec. 195-96.F.5).
