The village's zoning code addresses solar energy systems, permitting them by right if they do not increase floor space. If, however, owners wish to obtain protection from future shading by structures and vegetation on adjacent lots, a special use permit is required. Solar structures should be placed the furthest distance from adjoining properties, at least 100 feet away. If protections are sought, all property owners within 200 feet of subject property must be notified as to the public hearing (Sec. 155-57).
