The city's zoning code exempts the addition of solar collectors to roofs or sides of existing structures from land use permit requirements, as long as height limit requirements are complied with (Sec. 27.06.040.B.7). In residential districts, solar collectors no larger than 6 feet at their base, along with other rooftop appurtenances, may exceed district height limits by 5 feet (Sec. 27.20.050.D.2). Free-standing solar devices placed upon grade and no taller than 18" above grade are exempt from minimum setback requirements (Sec. 27.20.070.D.2).
