The city's zoning ordinance includes a section on Alternate Energy Sources that addresses solar energy collection systems (Sec. 25-21-20.b). When a system is installed on a lot, subsequent accessory structures and vegetation on abutting lots may not block solar access; protections cover the portion of systems not shaded by a hypothetical 12-foot obstruction on the lot line between 10 AM and 3 PM and an area equalling up to half of the footprint of the principal structure.
