Comprehensive Planning

This city's comprehensive plan from a suburban community that is the fourth largest city in Kansas has a strong focus on regional collaboration within Johnson County and the larger region. The plan is well organized in a way that explains the planning process and plan elements in a straightforward manner, making it accessible. Each section of the plan is highlighted with pictures drawn by local elementary school students illustrating their favorite places in the community. The plan also contains a detailed implementation section, highlighting key actions, lead agencies, and priority levels.

Solar Energy

This city's comprehensive plan has Environmental Sustainability and Resources Element that includes solar energy polices. One principle on green building practices offers an associated policy on Alternative Energy encouraging the use of alternative energy in new development and redevelopment (ESR-2.4, p. 5-15). Action 1 under this policy is to develop guidelines for alternative energies, including solar.
