Shared Mobility

The city's comprehensive plan includes a Transportation Element that incentivizes the use of emerging transportation solutions to create alternatives to private automobiles. Policies in this plan include encouraging the use of alternative transportation such as bikesharing, ridesharing, and microtransit to expand the mobility options for riders and reduce congestion (policy 2.5, policy 12.1, policy 14.4, policy 16.3, and policy 18.3.

Solar Energy

In the city's General Plan, the Environmental Protection Element addresses solar energy. Under an objective to establish the city as a model for energy management, it lists a supporting policy of investigating and implementing techniques to reduce municipal energy requirements, including capital investments in technologies such as solar water heating systems (Policy 12.3). Under an objective to enhance local housing energy efficiency, it lists a supporting policy of expanding the environmental review process to encourage the use of additional energy-saving measures in new housing, including solar water heating systems (Policy 13.3). Alternate Energy objectives include promoting the use of renewable energy (Objective 16), with supporting policies of developing land use policies to encourage renewable energy use such as solar access protection (Policy 16.1); removing obstacles to renewable energy systems in zoning and building codes (Policy 16.2); and developing information resources to assist in the use of renewable energy (Policy 16.3). Other related objectives and policies include supporting state, federal, and utility programs that encourage renewable energy use (Policies 17.1 and 17.2) and developing financing opportunities to implement local energy programs (Policies 18.1 and 18.2).
