The city's zoning and planning ordinance includes a number of solar-related terms in its definitions section (Sec. 7.100.010).

A chapter on alternative energy systems includes a section on requirements for active solar energy systems (Sec. 7.167.030). Standards address height, setbacks, visibility, plan approvals, and other issues. Systems that meet requirements will be granted administrative approval; those that do not meet requirements require special use permit approval.
