The city’s zoning code includes an overlay district-level bonus system that offers bonuses to developers that include bicycle amenities, such as lockers and shower facilities (§27-238). The FAR and density bonuses are calculated according to the bonus cost ratio (§27-241).

Biophilic Planning

This city’s code of ordinances contributes to the biophilia of the city by protecting the upland habitat that has natural plant communities that are scarce. It requires developers to submit an upland habitat plan to ensure that the development does not negatively impact the protected upland habitats (§ 27-287).

The city's zoning code addresses animals and chicken-keeping. The keeping of farm animals requires a 200' setback from dwelling units on adjoining properties and minimum land requirements of 1 acre per horse, cattle, or swine; ½ acre per sheep or goat; 5,000 SF per 5 fowl; and 10,000 SF per beehive (§27-282.27.e).

The zoning code was amended in 2013 to allow chicken-keeping as an accessory use (§27-282.28). Roosters are prohibited; 1,000 SF of land is required per chicken; chickens must be within an enclosed area at all times and a coop is required, which must adhere to accessory structure setbacks.
