Growing Food Where it is Needed
Center for a Sustainable Future White Paper No. 2, 2010
By: Indiana University South Bend Center for a Sustainable Future
This paper from the Center for a Sustainable Future at Indiana University South Bend discusses local governments' roles in supporting urban agriculture projects and policies as strategies to address pre-existing policy goals while dealing with the growing need for sustainable development and greening initiatives. Drawing examples from cities and municipalities around the U.S., it discusses what local governments are doing to plan for and support urban agriculture. The latter part of the paper discusses these issues specific to the city of South Bend, Indiana, and urges the city to solidify its support of community gardening by adopting a resolution committing to the services it already provides to these initiatives.
