The city's comprehensive plan includes policy recommendations that support using information and communications technology to make efficient use of transportation infrastructure. Strategy 9 in the Land Use and Transportation element recommends working with regional partners to implement intelligent transportation systems, working with the University of Wisconsin to test and build infrastructure that supports autonomous vehicles, using technology to enhance parking management, and evaluating emerging technologies to close "first mile/last mile" gaps in the transit network.

Built Environment and Health

The city’s comprehensive plan includes four lenses that informed the development of recommendations in all elements, one of which is Health. Health is referenced in the strategies related to compact, mixed-use development, active transportation networks, housing with social services, food access, art, environmental resilience, and regional coordination. Appendix A summarizes the strategies and actions and identifies lead agencies.

Social Equity

The city’s comprehensive plan lists Equity as a guiding lens. It encourages transportation planners to use the city’s Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative tools to assess transportation investments in Strategy 3 of the Land Use and Transportation chapter and sets an equitable education and advancement goal in the Economy and Opportunity chapter. Additional equity goals are incorporated throughout the document.

Food Systems | Urban Agriculture

The city's comprehensive plan includes policy recommendations that support urban agriculture. Strategy 8 in the Neighborhoods and Housing element addresses neighborhood access to healthy food and recommends identifying locations for new or expanded community gardens.
