It identifies the challenges to agriculture within the county, acknowledges the importance of this sector to the economy and environment, identifies issues impacting farmers’ abilities to remain in agriculture, and offers a comprehensive strategy with a range of tools to meet goals for agricultural and farmland protection at the private, town, and county levels. It examines land conversion pressures and municipal planning efforts to counter them, examines a range of existing farmland protection strategies, and offers goals and recommendations for farmland protection.
