Farmland Protection | Food Systems

The county’s development code addresses farmland protection. In its opening list of policy statements, the code lists protection of existing farm operations as a county policy by discouraging development that may conflict with existing farm regulations. The code establishes performance standards for maintaining agricultural resources and the farm economy (§7-3) that protect existing agricultural operations by requiring a resource management agreement before a building permit for a residence is issued in a farming area.

Appendix A provides a model right-to-farm resource management agreement.
