Farmland Protection | Food Systems

The township’s land use and development code addresses farmland protection through agricultural buffer requirements. The code’s design and performance standards section requires that subdivisions and site plans must include buffer strips (100 feet wide for minor plans and 200 feet wide for major plans) along any boundary with assessed qualified farmland (§60-42.E.7). Developers must also plant a vegetative screen and may be required to construct a fence along the property line. The Land Use Board may require specific deed restrictions or provisions for maintenance for such buffer areas or screening.
